The school counselor:
- Listens to student's needs and concerns
- Helps assess his/her strengths and weaknesses
- Meets with students to explain the counseling program, discuss personal concerns, discuss college and career options
- Previews student's academic record and suggests areas of improvement and strategies to increase academic achievement
- Helps students schedule time and meet deadlines for taking standardized tests
- Provides resources on college/career selection, financial aid resources and specific guidelines for exploring post high school options
- Helps your child acquire specific skills in test taking, study skills, decision making and goal setting to assist academic achievement
- Coordinates college, military, trade/technical visitation programs and provides student recommendations
- Helps student set reasonable goals and develop strategies for meeting them
- Has resources (books, brochures, videotapes) for post high school career or educational options
- Links students with community agencies which provide supplemental support
- Assist students in evaluation their chosen Career Pathway
- Helps students make yearly course selection choices appropriate to their Career Pathway
- Facilitates contacts between parents and teachers for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
